The Slow Drag, an Off-Broadway musical by Carson
Kreitzer opened to sell out performances in a fringe theatre in
London on February 14 1997. It transferred to the West End of
London on October 27 1997.
This unusual Jazz Musical based on real life
contains some of the most popular songs of the forties, such as
BLUES IN THE NIGHT, THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT, HONEYSUCKLE ROSE,
BLAME IT ON MY YOUTH, TOO LATE NOW, BUT BEAUTIFUL. MORE THAN YOU
KNOW, EVERYBODY LOVES MY BABY and other.
The singing sensation, Kim Criswell stars as June Wedding, the
wife of Saxophonist Johnny Christmas whom only after his death
was discovered to be a woman.
The other stars include West Ends Liza
Sadovy and Christopher Colquhoun. They are accompanied by a quintet
of some of the finest jazz musicians currently on the circuit.
Included as bonus tracks are five songs in
the same arrangements sung by Kim Criswell. They are YOUVE
COME A LONG WAY FROM ST.LOUIS, MY FOOLISH HEART, YOULL NEVER
KNOW/I WISH I DIDNT LOVE YOU SO, BLUE MOON and BABY ITS
COLD OUTSIDE.
Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London over four nights
each night starting at 12.00 am to capture the flavour.
